Henry Edwards Papers, 1857-1860.

Henry Edwards, a ship captain from Salem, Massachusetts, was master of several ships, two of which are represented in this collection, George W. Jones and M. Shepard, both Brigs. The collection includes a seamen's protection document for Captain Edwards; an estate document signed by Benjamin Edwards, executor of Henry Edwards' estate; correspondence pertaining to two ships for which Edwards was captain; a ship manifest for the George W. Jones; and correspondence to Edwards' wife.

Benjamin Edwards was a member of what was originally known as the "Yellowstone Expedition," under the command of Major Stephen H. Long. The party spent the winter at Ft.
